Character
Name: Mari "Athena" Mackenzie
Canon (+ Canon Point): Original-- midcanon, in the aftermath of making a very questionable decision (and screw up an accidental First Contact for a fourth time) to ensure their continued survival. It involves making an ill advised and certainly forbidden deal with the local God of Mysteries.
CRAU: n/a
Inventory:
- 3 small, soda can sized drones painted in a variety of colors (pink, teal, yellow). The pink one is decorated with flowers and ribbons on the antenna
- suitcase style record player
- Pink Floyd's "Darkside of the Moon" on a vinyl record
- a utility knife.
Animal companion/Pet: a white cat, as a nod to Athena's meta origins, named Cecily.
Mount: n/a
Do their canon powers need capping: No. They only have supportive/ healing magic to a moderate degree. Otherwise, their cybernetic augments are largely geared for espionage and data recording-- beyond the medically necessary sensory supports and limb/organ replacements. Their prosthetic arm does have a hidden gun that relies on limited small scale plasma bursts that have a long recharge, but it is only powerful enough to defend their own safety if they have no other options left.
Their drones are capable of recording, projection displays, audio transmission, and taser-like shocks. They are tethered to Athena's augments and will not be functional if they are out of range. Their onboard AI to allow them a degree of autonomy will be disabled.
Season: Spring
Reasoning behind the chosen season: Because Athena here is the type to spring into action, and their bright personality is a bit of spring-like sunshine on the dreariest days
Anything else:

They're an archivist from an interplanetary university and they messed up an accidental and unsanctioned First Contact in four very different, very bad ways. Please, don't think of them as a role model. They are old enough to know better.

Character name: Marit "Athena" Mackenzie
Canon: OC
Canon point & release date: While they are dealing with the aftermath of their bad decisions after embarking on yet another thing that irreparably screws up an accidental and unsanctioned First Contact... By making a forbidden deal with the God of Mysteries.
History: Basic Summary
CRAU (if applicable): None
Powers (no more than 150 words): No real powers per-se. Athena is an archivist, with a specialty in the digitization of vintage hard media-- we're talking cassette tapes, CDs, VHS tapes, and Vinyl Records. Their media literacy is A+, and this transfers to critical thinking skills.
Athena was in a severe accident about a decade before the story and has a number of medical cybernetic augments to aid them. The augments provide some additional strength and endurance by the nature of their existence, but the only benefit they provide is a trio of drones to aid sensory processing. The drones can zap enemies, and Athena's prosthetic arm is capable of small, personal defense level taser like electrical bursts.
The drones are separate items and not coming.
They do learn some magic while trapped planetside-- of the general healing type. Yes, they're surprised too.
Athena exercises regularly and can shoot general firearms or fight dirty.
Personality
What is your character most afraid of? How are they defined by this fear? (100-300 words)
There is nothing worse for Athena than the emptiness of the void and being left alone with the constant noise of their own thoughts. Part of this is due to the nature of their mental processing. Without a variety of projects to keep them occupied, their baseline thought processes tend towards anxiety and catastrophization. This inevitably leads to Athena vibrating in their skin because of the horrors they are predicting-- and this is not at all helped by their continued habit of committing to the bit and being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
That, and after the space accident that lead to their cyberized condition, they have a certain fear of the void. The severity of their wounds and length of their exposure to the vacuum meant that they should have been dead-- and, without people with capabilities to fix that, and who had a vested interest in Athena's continued survival, Athena would have been dead.
What is your character's greatest desire? How are they defined by this desire? (100-300 words)
Athena believes in the idea of a garden as referenced in the musical Hamilton-- its a legacy, planting, present, and building the foundation of something that they will never live to see. To them, Humanity is as terrible as it is wonderful, and it's the ephemera that gets lost to future generations.
They want to preserve the ephemera, to help people of a future era understand what life was like in previous eras. A student of classical history, they understand that it's the minutia of the day-to-day that transcends the inevitability of time and helps people from the present connect to the past. Epitaphs on the graves of dogs, graffiti that was hand carved into stone walls, and the preserved complaints in clay tablets about a corrupt trader all serve the purpose of humanizing the past.
This is why they care so much about salvaging treasures from dumpsters and auction houses alike. People are fundamentally the same across time-- and they want other people to understand the odd joy of finding a mixtape with a lover's name on it, with the understanding that some teenager of some lost summer had to time the Record and the Play buttons so precisely with the start of the song that played live on the radio over and over and over so that their paramour would have a gift to cherish when the break from school was over.
How will not having memories change your character? What core personality traits, if any, will change? How? (200-300 words)
Athena's core basis-- that of a non stop chatterbox that is fascinated by the wonderful and terrible nature of humanity, would fundamentally remain unchanged. If anything, they will be existing at their baseline-- without the memories of the traumas of their incarceration as a result of an unsanctioned First Contact that they screwed up in multiple very different, very bad ways. That said, they will not be without problems. The drones, which they are currently not able to have on hand due to the nature of the game, are more than just recording tools for the energetic archivist. The drones are auxiliary sensory tools that assist with cushioning an over-taxed and damaged neural system which had to be rebuilt on a number of levels.
Without the tools as an assist, they will have more trouble making sense of the world. Between the drones, the traumatic accident, and their own ADHD, they will have a number of factors playing against them. In effect, the cumulative pressures will leave them feeling both somewhat blinded and more prone to fatigue due to the extra efforts being made to maintain a sensible level of functioning. When fatigued, they will be more prone to anxiety-- and, without their support network of both tools and people who understand their particular needs, they are more likely to run themselves ragged in an effort to not have to deal with the non-stop chatter in their own head.

🔘 First Impressions
📻 VISUAL: Athena doesn't seem like much on first glance. Tall, slender, with a penchant for bright colors and often dresses like the local craft store exploded. They prefer loud colors, loud patterns, and often is accompanied by 1-3 drone assistants that are painted in a variety of florid colors.
📻 FASHION: As stated above: Gender Non Conforming Craft Store Explosion.
📻 DEMEANOUR: The most laid back chatterbox of a librarian that anyone ever did meet. Athena manages a digital archive at an interplanetary university and acts as peppy and up beat as the role suggests.
📻 AURAL: Variable. Athena has cybernetic augments due to medical procedures related to a disastrous accident. They were picked up and rehabilitated by a teaching star ship associated with the university to the utmost of what their technology could allow, but it is not perfect. When speaking in their natural voice, Athena fits into that middle area between a Tenor and an Alto and does their utmost to speak in as neutral a cadence as possible. Their voice takes on a tinny, radio-like quality when they are relying on their drones for a communication assist whenever the technology supporting their body goes on the fritz for whatever reason.
When they are being dramatic, they will drop into the old-time cinema Trans-Atlantic accent. For kicks and giggles.
📻 OLFACTORY: Old paper, old records, dust, machine oil, and the heady smells of herbal cigarettes.
📻 PERSONALITY: Upbeat. Chatterbox. Literally nothing can get Athena to shut up. They are stubborn and feisty, but inclined to take people at their word and trust even if it means that they get literally burned for it.
They are the sort of person that can and will call a person by their online handle out loud in a public setting, and drop puns at inopportune times.
📻 MEDICAL INFORMATION: Athena was in a space accident about a decade ago wherein a large portion of their body was crushed and they were deprived of oxygen for an amount of time that was decidedly unsafe. Their body has had extensive cybernetic augments and alterations just for general functioning. Their dominant hand, and their visual/audio processes have entirely had to be offloaded onto mechanical systems, and they are partly reliant on the drones to help them see, hear, and interact with the world. Their legs and spinal column have been partly rebuilt; their internal organs are a mostly functional mess of technology and whatever the doctors could salvage of their organic tissues.
📻 MENTAL INFORMATION: For being a survivor of extensive physical trauma, Athena is astoundingly well grounded and put together. Having an extensive and supportive network of people around you does wonders for the psyche
📻 MAGICAL INFORMATION: Athena possesses the capacity to learn some healing magic and does indeed do so over the course of the story. At base, these are not skills that are native to Athena but are easy enough to understand via the same unwasted energy principles that allows their tech run. Yes, even they are surprised that they can learn this.
📻 BRIEF SUMMARY:
"Athena", as they prefer to go by in spaces where they are uncertain about what is safe, is an archival worker on an interplanetary university that specializes in the digitization of vintage hard media but also works to maintain well-kept collections of rare antiques-- particularly music vinyls, which they like to share with their colleagues and curious university students while engaging in certain dubiously legal recreational activities with them. Born and raised in a Future Florida, Athena is no stranger to dubious deals-- and, generally, can get through them without problem. Keeping your eyes open and your hand on the nearest improvised weapon was normal.
A deal to pick up a case of rare vinyls went wrong and turned into a chase when Athena unwittingly grabbed the wrong suitcase and walked off with a case full of an unknown payload intended to sabotage the Inter-System Corporate Alliance that many of the space faring societies were a part of.
Rather than surrender despite doing nothing wrong, Athena ran and was shot down in neutral space... on a pre First Contact world.
With their ship damaged, Athena had no escape-- and no recourse but to surrender when the local government officials descended upon them and the wreckage site. In the conflict that followed, the unknown payload went live-- exploding and killing the one stranger that was trying to remedy the situation, the god-like Lord of Mysteries, Nysa. The survivors captured Athena and took them in for questioning... and, eventual medical study to figure out what kind of life form they even were. Humans as a concept were virtually unknown-- generalist type organisms did not exist on that world, and the medical professionals were confused by how Athena even functioned between this and their wide variety of medical augments.
It was only by luck that one of their drones was left alone. As a means of coping with their imprisonment, Athena sent the drone out in search of assistance and to learn about this new world while remaining vigilant for the cops to eventually find their location and descend in search for them. Unable to be connected 24/7, Athena let the Drone run an AI copy of their on personality for a degree of autonomy and charm in order to find allies that are willing to take on the empire to rescue an apparent god-slayer. Luck was on their side, and their first assist came at the hands of none other than an anarchist called Cecily Greywind and the militant trade organization behind her. With her two apprentices at hand, there were people on the outside to help.
This left Athena able to run interference on the mess that wasn't even their fault to be thrown into their face.
The powers that be, angered by Athena's association with the death of the God of Mystery and blaming them fully for the incident, demanded their death at the hands of Nysa's son, Genya.
Genya, a bastard of Nysa's but also his oldest surviving son, was one of the few Nysa trusted with the truth: there were other worlds beyond the limits of the skies, but disaster came the last time there was any contact at all. Genya informed Athena that Nysa would be back soon enough. Nysa is one of the few left of a race of cyclical immortals, who upon death return to a larval, infantile state and then starts the cycle of growing up anew with all of their memories intact. Until Nysa returned, however, Genya had to take on his duties, and needed help.
Rather than kill Athena, Genya got the brilliant idea of tasking Athena for an assist-- which would be enough to buy them all a little time and freedom until Nysa's return, and until someone came from the sky to extract Athena.
🔘 OOC
📻 BACKTAGGING: Always!
📻 FOURTHWALLING: Sure! If there's anything to Fourt Wall!
📻 PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Go ahead. Athena is very open to flirting and very tactile with their affections
📻 PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: I'd prefer a warning, but Athena is more than willing to fight back if needed.
📻 RELATIONSHIPS: Totally open, for men, women, and everyone in between. Let's just talk first if you want anything involving smut. Athena is Demi but Pansexual and open to participating in a Polycule.
🔘 EXTRA
Athena was spawned from a cross-canon AU and as such can exist in multiple AUs.
Examples include:
📻 Fate/: Caster-Class or a Master, just like the character they were AU'd from.
📻 Murderbot Diaries: A runaway corporate spy associated with the Pan System University of New Tideland and Mihira, an Augmented Human that sought refuge in Preservation and regularly trades media online with others on the Local Network -- the original AU that they came from.
📻 In General: If there's space in the canon for university archivists, hackers, cyborgs, nerds, art thieves and the like, Athena can fit into it easily.
📻 Trivia: 'Athena' is actually their preferred network tag, be it social media or in gamer spaces. Yes, they are the type to verbally call someone by their network tag when meeting in person.
